I sent an article like that to my ops manager after I left. I think the one I sent stated 89% were planning on looking for new jobs this year. I thought it might be eye opening, but I think it missed the mark.

I remember from college, employees and employers were surveyed on what employees really wanted. The two lists were completely opposite of each other. You would think that after all these years employers would figure out that they really don't know their employees and would take steps to fix it. Unfortunately until employers follow Carnegie's philosophy instead of viewing employees as nothing more than a commodity to be used up then thrown away you will always have high turnover.
In case you are wondering someone asked Dale Carnegie about how he made steel. His reply was "I make men, they make steel." Carnegie was behind the idea of the free lending library concept and many small towns have him to thank for their libraries.Mooseontheloose Thanks this. -
I had Tom Messer for a FM, boy was he a pain... There does that make you feel better??? Not really but here is the real deal, if your FM knows what your expectations are and you know his/hers, then you both have a better chance of being successful. Communication is the name of the game. So if you can't be bothered to take time to see your FM and have a face to face sit down, or if your FM can't be bothered, then DON'T CRY ABOUT IT!!! Most guys quit the first time something goes wrong or doesn't go the way they think it should, so that is why alot of companies don't go out of the way to make drivers happy. You can't make everyone happy...

You suck too....but at least I made the list now.

i talked to them, made my issues clear. made it clear i would love to be a career driver with roehl. i actually really liked the company. but the hometime stuff never changed, i gave it almost a year. i even said i dont care what happens when im out on the road,i never complained about all the short runs, just over 100 so you dont get the short haul pay, i didnt complain about all the overnights, all i wanted was my 4 days home, i never ever ever got them. i dont think not even once did i get a full four days off. thats not quitting at the first issue.thats not whining about the company. thats saying i give up after a year of the same issue (with 4 managers, not from me asking, just new ones) and two divisions. its a company issue , i was told for every hour im sitting home is an hour the company will never get back -
That's real mature.

Can't be Tom, Tom hates me, and I think Tom got canned for flipping out into profanity-laden tirades on his drivers. I heard he also eats babies.
-
I didn't hate you. The rest is true.
