94 through Minneapolis, 294 through [redacted], 55 through Jackson/Memphis, 10 though red stick, 20 through Atlantis, i don't f around with any of those dumb areas or the like, I get over and i get tf out, zero problems. towns that know better (not very many) have signs posted "thru traffic keep left", traffic flow is always cool through those towns even without me having to play mother duck.
there are certain nodes of traffic interchange that naturally produce common law "thru traffic keep left" and it's magical to watch, everybody knows exactly what to do to allow the daily backup for the exit without impeding forward flow, beltway and 45 south in Houston, 294 and X south in [redacted], I love seeing common sense in action when there's 6 lanes and 2 are dead stop, everybody knows what to do because everybody can see the opening, somehow that instinct is lost when the ratio goes from 6:2 down to 3:1
Left lane heros

In reality very few places have signs posted thru traffic keep left. As in a very small fraction of the interstate highway system. I can think of one place where it's posted in large signage very clearly to keep to the left and that's I-70 thru Zanesville, OH where the speed limit is also 55 mph and it's actually justified because of the short entrance ramps in that town. In a vast majority of the rest of the country it's sensibly keep yourself to the right unless passing. Which again is the safest place because you'll always have an out to that right shoulder.
Most drivers set their cruise (against a speed limiter) and don't want to be bothered with acting in a courteous manner. They don't want to tap the brakes or accelerator (frustrated, angry, miserable because they have no more accelerator) allowing other motorist a small courtesy so they take this bad attitude of I'm gonna do it my way, the wrong way and #### everybody else. -
Peoria IL is thru traffic left lane also on I-74 I can think of off the top of my head. As for the right shoulder "always" being a safe out, please... You KNOW better than that.
Last Call Thanks this. -

The days of drivers helping each other out and working together are evidently over for the most part it seems.
I'm glad I had the opportunity to drive when it wasn't this way.
The "it's all about me, and my business " attitude of trucking nowadays only makes it worse for everyone. -
i hold more concern for the safety of merging zombies and cops on the shoulder and construction bros than i do for anyone inconvenienced by having to change lanes to get around me. anyone throwing a fit cause i'm in the way doesn't gaf about anyone else around them anyways, and won't gaf when i'm stuck in the right and can't get over away from X shoulder hazard, this squabble just goes in an infinite loop, that's why i just park it in the middle now, if there is a middle

A couple of us older guys were talking about this a few weeks ago. Mostly relating to way guys will park to load in ways that cause problems for everyone around them.
One of the guys made the point that out wasn't that these guys were being selfish me-first pricks on purpose, it's that they were never taught to consider how what they did affected others. It's quite literally not even part of their thought process.D.Tibbitt, Phoenix Heavy Haul, Nostalgic and 4 others Thank this. -
But it’s more common to find it clear than when a middle lane says his way of causing congestion around himself and everyone that follows says he always has an out from the middle but the fact is more often than not he has traffic on both sides!Jubal Early Times and Oxbow Thank this.

The middle laner is definitely only concerned about themselves as clearly stated in posts here!
The part that is funny is thier brethren in thought are the cause of all that stop and go/slow crawl traffic that they encounter on a regular basis and they are the cause of thier brethren’s wowes and they just aren’t smart enough to understand it.D.Tibbitt, Phoenix Heavy Haul, Nostalgic and 4 others Thank this. -
traffic on both sides is a given, i just choose to pick what traffic i keep next to me. i keep the upset traffic behind me
