Doing at least the speed limit was part of my OP that a lot of people here just totally glossed over. Why should I care if I'm doing the speed limit in the middle lane if some AH super trucker wants go do 15 over? They are already the actual hazard on the road. There are already four wheelers in the middle lane doing the limit so it shouldn't matter if a truck is there too.
Left lane heros

There are large parts of the country where the Left lane is off-limits for trucks. In my area of the country the left lane is only off-limits in certain areas. How do I know this, the signs say that in those areas. There is no state law dictating it outside of those areas. Driving by CA/NY/IL rules in some other place is ignoring the local rules. Read and obey the signs where you are at, understanding some places are so ghetto the signs are stolen. Drive in whatever lane is legal for you to be in, hogging a lane as a personal sanctuary is unprofessional and selfish, and usually lazy. This industry has an excess of unprofessional, selfish, laziness. Some drivers use that abundance of such as an invitation to increase those qualities.Vampire, rollin coal and Numb Thank this.

Lane selection is based on passing, not speed preference. Keep right except to pass. It's not 55-ers in this lane, 65-ers in this lane, and 75-ers in that lane.
Keep right except to pass. New drivers bring bad 4-wheel habits into the truck and see other bad truck behavior and take that as an invitation to do drive badly or proof that their bad driving isn't bad, it's common. You can choose to act professionally or choose to act unprofessionally. You can even choose to never decide how you act and the announce you decide how people view your behavior.Gearjammin' Penguin, Vampire, Numb and 2 others Thank this. -
Driving on the right lane is the most dangerous, when you drive through big cities.
Why do I have to take that extra risk if I can legally drive on the left lane or the middle ones?RunningAces Thanks this. -
Fun fact, 4% of all accidents in the US are lane change accidents. Following distance results in 29% of all accidents.
Sooo, from a SAFETY aspect, If you get in 1 lane and stay there - and you are going slower than the flow of traffic, you decrease your odds of being in an accident by a LOT (you have just eliminated one third of all accidents). Not to mention that BACKING is a high percentage also (around 50%) and you aint doing that on the super slab... Safety over "being nice" EVERY TIME.
Now to be clear, I am NOT talking about a 2 lane. 3+ lanes... Nor am I talking about going 60 in the left lane in a 75mph zone. I (personally) run 5 over the speed limit. Ive only had 1 cop in my life pull me over for that (or at least thats the excuse he gave me), looked at my paper work and let me go without even a warning... (and that was in Michigan - I was passing another truck and wanted to clear the left lane as soon as I could),Last edited: Jun 13, 2023

People understand that when ramps are close the middle is the most likely choice and most drivers will be patiently waiting for the ramps to space out before expecting you to start being professional and move right to let traffic flow. I think most here who have issue with your lane hogging is that even when those ramps are separated by miles your still hogging that lane and causing congestion.
By the way for a true professional, You should be able to handle the right lane for a few miles to help alleviate that congestion! -
That all depends on what state your in.Big Road Skateboard, tscottme, Vampire and 1 other person Thank this.

Which is only true in Georgia (although it's never been to court, or at least nothing public I could find.)
The only time it's illegal is is you are going less than the speed limit, note it's less than the speed limit, not traffic flow.
Otherwise, show the law where it's illegal to be int he left lane.
And I'm not talking about 3rd lane restrictions to CMV, I'm talking about what you just claimed.Vampire Thanks this. -
