You can only run 11 hours legally, that leaves 13 hours left in the day. You need to park someplace to sleep, take 15 minutes and have a quick shower.
There is no excuse. YOU are the one driving the truck, you are the only one that can move that truck, so next time when you go get a bite to eat, jump in the shower and you will be even happier... -
Apparently! Only problem is.... I dont remember it.
Besides, couldnt let all the young-uns have all the #### fun. -
I also work for Roehl. It sounds like you got a bum dispatcher. There are some gray areas in policy at Roehl. For example, when I was training, if a load was assigned x paid miles, but in reality we had to drive a lot farther because of routing errors, my trainer's dispatcher found ways to get him more money, but my dispatcher knows of no way to make up the discrepancy, adhering absolutely strictly to the planned 'practical miles.' I have reason to believe that may be coming from my current FOM, and she may be just following orders.
Some of the things you complain of are real mindbenders to me tho.
If you are delivering in Canada or New England, you need to plan ahead. As a general practice, I pack over 20 gallons of water (I refill them at home, not gonna pay for water on the road) and keep a couple small coolers to use for washing. I've gotten good at cab showering with only 1 gallon of water. Having a background as a nursing assistant helps me with that-I adapted my training in giving bedbaths lol. There simply isn't the option to shower in those areas when you combine Roehl's fueling practices with the company policy of only showering on your 10 hour break. Regarding Etch5858's comment, that works OK if you are an O/O as he is, but company drivers are not allowed to take that time out of the day. It's right in the DRG, which O/O's don't use. You are however, required to take a lunchbreak for safety, and can maybe slip a shower in on the sly if there isnt a waiting line-I've done that before.
As for the tight window, that also depends on your dispatcher. Yes, you have a window, unless your dispatcher arbitrarily decides to make it a strict appointment. That happened to me during training, my dispatcher changed my window to an appointment after HIS supervisor (FOM) assigned me the window. It cost me a reset. To resolve that, I suggest getting all your scheduling options up front-get a second opinion, maybe from after hours dispatch or your FOM if you have to, which it sounds like you might with that dispatcher.
As for the payroll issues, you can fax your paperwork directly to payroll, bypassing your dispatcher, need to have a friend help you, etc. I would post the fax number here, but not sure posting others' contact info here would be a good idea. Your payroll rep can give you that info. I can assure you however, that your dispatcher in no way needs to be involved with your payroll. I fax directly from customer locations all the time. Just ask if they have a fax you can use to send your paperwork in to the office, most of the time they're ok with it. The business of 'nope, nope, can't do that' is rude for interrupting, and inaccurate. Your dispatcher needs to recognize that you are the captain of the ship. Change fleets if you have to and drop that drip.
My current dispatcher (aside from lacking creativity in getting me money for unexpected mileage) is very good about pretty much all of the issues that can frustrate a driver. I've only been really stuck once, was way up in Canada, and she eventually made the tough decision to deadhead me (paid!) back into the US to increase the likelihood of getting a load. I flatbed, so I tend to eat up some of my 70 with non-driving duties. She's really good at getting me one of the stretch weekend loads Etch mentioned to reset my hours where it's convenient, sometimes even flying my by my house for unofficial hometime. There are a lot of gray areas, and given that you said you want money, money, and more money, your dispatcher might be pushing you to the limit with the intention of miles at all other costs. Or you just might have a lousy dispatcher. Try discussing your issues, and if that doesn't help, you can always switch fleets.Baack Thanks this. -
11 days and 4300 miles aint that busy. Sounds to me like you dont know how to manage your time vs. the time you log. Come on Roehl makes you guys play by the books and the means 10hr break = plenty of time to Shower, 10 days without bathing thats just plain old gross. Good Luck

Bocephus, Dude, Come on now.. No time for a shower, but plenty of time to post/complain/whine on the internet. Dude, you crack me up!
