So I suppose the next question is whether Washington and/or Colorado currently have DUI laws on the books and how those laws are worded. Makes me wonder how Amsterdam handles these sorts of issues.

As far as debate over marijuana related DUI/Motor Impairment, there is no definition to the law because it simply hasn't been a major problem in the past. Although I agree that any drug, marijuana included, can cause impaired judgement, theres simply not enough legal history or scientific data indicating that marijuana has ever contributed directly or indirectly to a motor-related fatality. And, until there is a huge rise in moto-related accidents attributed to the use of marijuana, this will probably remain a non-issue with most states.

I live in WAshington and we were talking about a person being stopped by the police if a person was under the influence of THC. This girl was saying that she heard that the police would take some kind of blood sample thru a prick of the skin on the scene if the driver was questionable.

As someone that previously worked in the legal field, I can't really see this happening since you are taking bodily fluids from someone. It just doesn't sound logical or practical in a legal sense.

It will be interesting to see how this all plays out in the future. Judging from the way they drive out here I would suspect that 50% of the drivers are already under the influence of marijuana.

I'm more inclined to think the 50 % you are talking about, are on something other than MJ. And then 95 % of the rest of them are certainly operating under the influence of stupidity. . .:biggrin_25510:

I figure its a matter of years before they fix cameras on the drivers full-time and make you do one of those breath-ignition devices each time you start-up the truck. Just saying...

How can you tell? Have 50% of the drivers been going 45mph in a 55mph zone? Are there an unusual amount of Cheeto's bags appearing on the sides of the roads? These are, I'm afraid, the tell-tale signs that your state may have just legalized recreational marijuana. Oh the dangers!

I'm hoping it's marijuana because I can't see any other good excuse.
And, yes, as far as going slow in the "fast" lane and sleeping on the lights. Not sure about the Cheetos bags yet but I'm looking into it.

I just came across this info. This will impact the 4 wheelers that are smoking weed and holds them to the same standard as CDL holders....
The thing I like about the Washington state law is that they lowered the "positive test threshold" down to 5 nanograms, which is a ZERO TOLERANCE level. So if you smoke today, you can't legally drive for a week.....so they have actually made weed use more restrictive in the state. But they have allowed possession of small amount of weed. So you can carry your weed in your car, but you can't smoke it.........WOW, the stoners must have been in charge of lobbying for that law!!!!!
