I agree. A Cobra 25 LTD or a Uniden PC68 is probably all the more radio you will never need. Both perform the same as their bigger brothers, except they're slightly smaller and don't have the useless in radio SWR checker. (get an external SWR meter)
Say what....????
How would a weather band board inside a CB decrease performance? Yeah I understand WX is FM and CB is AM...the WX isn't transmitting. It's just receiving.
Also not all CB's with WX have it on the same board. I personally had a Uniden PC68LTW that had the WX board as a separate board from the main radio board.
less expensive cb's?

There are lots of radios going cheap in Vegas.

Yep agree and VHF

I believe you Mr Bill, we're both right in a way.
The same goes with Radio Shack stuff. Even some Phillips brand electronics is Uniden. You can go to Walmart and almost every cordless phone there is Uniden. But they are made for other companies with the other companies name on it. That doesn't mean they own them. Now a days everything is resourced out. It's kind of like Toshiba. You can find their parts in about everything.
Even companies like Ford been using Mazda engines and transmissions in some of their vehicles since the Ford Courier. Ford eventially tried to buy them out but failed. I think they have about a 15% stake in Mazda now.
But you are right, if it's the same radio and a few dollars cheaper, go for it. I know them little black LED ones are a piece of junk. A kids walkie talkie can get out further.

At one time Uniden was contracted by Cobra to build their CBs, then Cobra had Ranger building them. The last I knew Maxon was the actual manufacturer of the Cobra line but this may have changed.I wouldn't be surprised if they are being pumped out of several Chinese sweatshop factories now.

be careful who tunes your radio. I can hear your stock radio 20 miles away. if you let the wrong guy "tune" it, I will be lucky to hear you 4 miles away. -
Good advice for the most part. Check the link out below about spreading the coils.

i myself just went too e-bay and for giggles, i put a bid on a slighty used but otherwise new cobra 29 night wacth weather radio , with all the manuals and stuff, and fresh peek and tune, he only used it a couple months he said, his reserve price, $100 out the door, plus 11 too ship it, or make a bid, so i did i threw my $20 on the poker table, i seen it before and i won doing that, but well see on this one, becuse e bay is like vegas, you never know when or if your gonna win,, they had lots on there for low as $9.00 , with a aftermarket mic, like one had a power pro mic, $29.99 here at the pilot, the mic is, but when i started and i still find hard too belive myself, the cobra or any cb seems too hasnt change price at all , as i look im the truck stop, cobra 29 no weather, just a plain one still $123 to $129 and been that way for a long time, i still like the firesticks ant ,but last company i was with said nope, had too use there stock ant, due too the truck being under warrenty, i just sad okay, wasnt going too fight with um, now somebody please explain why you need a power mic too me, .

I don't think you should ever use a power mic in a high noise environment like a truck! In fact, they aren't too good in any mobile application, unless you get a noise cancelling power mic. Which isn't ideal IMHO. I've got a converted Shure noise cancelling mic in my pick-up. (got about $125 in it I think) I use RK56s in everything else. Well I got some mics that look like Astatic mics, but they have RK guts in them!
Everett Thanks this. -
Currently you can buy Uniden radios on ebay at distributor pricing. Uniden is selling out of the back door using cover names. Great for the consumer. To the original poster (or anyone else) you can find a uniden 68LTW for about $80 shipped. That's a great smaller radio for a steal of a price.
Everett Thanks this.
