Joseph were you in Reno, NV yesterday? Or somewhere close by it on the I-80?
-
No, not yesterday. I usually get on 80 at Winnemuca and leave at exit 83 to run 95.

Sure glad to hear about the improvements at the Florida yard. Sounds like I'm coming a board at the right time.

I personally would not trade OTR for local in exchange for a 15k a year pay increase. I don't have a family aside from my parents and siblings. I only have myself to support. I have no interest in changing that in the foreseeable future. I'm cheap. Women and kids aren't. I have no reason to get a local job. But then again, drivers in my situation are not exactly the majority.

I'm married and am about to give up on the local once and for all. It's not what it's cracked up to be. Sure you sleep in your own bed, but many nights, that, along with dinner and a shower, is about all you have time for. I don't really have a life Monday through Friday even though I'm home.
Most days it's be in bed by 7:30pm, get up at 2:00am, get to work by 3:15am. Run two trips. Get home about 5:30pm. Wash, rinse, repeat...tucker, Bumper, joseph1135 and 4 others Thank this. -
Different perspective for sure, much respect to you. I sometimes desire to get out on the open road, but I like my home and my hobbies (even though I don't enjoy the Harley like I should). I'm divorced and the money is a huge difference for me. I suppose I could (maybe?) find an OTR gig for 80k/year, but what about the retirement/vacation/holiday/fringes/etc? I also consider giving up this business altogether...maybe in 10 years I could get a cushy forklift job or something. Who knows...

Unfortunately this is so true. You start scheduling at home how much time you have to take a shower, eat, and if your not dead tired please the lady. I don't have it so bad where I'm at now but running nights I find myself constantly trying to catch up on sleep whenever I have more than 2 hours of spare time at home.

So today I called Lessors and spoke to a recruiter and listened to all the information he had about the company, asked a few questions, and I liked what I heard. Sounded to me like they have quite a bit of freight out west now after buying that company in Idaho. Also found out I don't have to take another physical since I have my medical card and long form and both are still good. Might be making a change very soon. Not making jackcrap where I am now.

I make good money here. New equipment, APUs, inverters and lots of miles. There's money to be made here.
