I don't like JB Hunt because their company logo looks really amateur and boring.

I like CR England because they used a nice font.

I think the snow on top of Central Refrigerated's logo was a nice touch.

    How cute is that?!

I really like Shaffer because they have a PENGUIN!!!

Seriously how could you not like that? They should have helped sponsor the movie Happy Feet.

    ..I like a good logo.

Check out Knight Transportation. Not the best, not the worst, but they may be OK for you.

Like one poster said, it's more who YOU are rather than which company you work for. Of course, the company DOES matter, but you have to get your feet wet somewhere, right?

Suck it up for a year, keep your nose clean, and then you will know a lot more.

There are also numerous government workforce grants available that will pay for you to go to a CDL school. Knowledge is power my friend

you would be 1000 times better off paying for it yourself, that way you can go to a company where you can make money and then actully go home to your family.

We have a terminal in Myrtle, MS if you within 120 miles of there call Roxy in Recruiting for Watkins Shepard.

Pay for your own school, you'll thank me later, espeically with a family you dont want to be STUCK OTR for a year in the event somthing happened and you needed to be home you'd be screwed....

Also, a lot of private CDL schools offer financing and then many companies offer tuition reimbursement. I would find out what a trucking companies reimbursement policy is and then try to find a good school that will tailor the financing to the companies payment schedule (usually $100 to $200 a month). The company will also have a maximum they will pay. Most companies (probably all) will only offer tuition reimbursement if they are your first employer after school and there is also a time limit such as within 30 to 90 days of finishing school to being hired. This may be an option and then you can consider companies that do not have their own schools (like Watkins Shepard for instance).

Talked to Watkins Shepard and they no longer have a school and the do not hire in my area.

I have a school REALLY close to my hose but it is 5 weeks long (full 10-12 hr days 5 days a week...no time for a job too unless on weekends) and that is a long time to be outta work.

I am going to talk to Tyson and some other companies that are HQ'd around here to see if they hire new grads (based on the advice I got from you guys...thanks) and see what other schools are close to home...may look at that one in Neosho

Just got off the phone with the Tyson recruiter in my area. She said they hire out of the school here down the street form my house and based on my history there should be no problem hiring me if I pass the class. She went on the give me all the details and said that they begin paying me back for school after 90 days of being on my own (monthly payments as long as I am employed with them and they are the 1st company I got with out of school).

That sounds good except the 5 weeks off work ... guess I'll have a big yard sale amd maybe sell a few firearms for cash to get us through if I do that.

I'll keep researching and I really do appreciate all the advice guys, THANKS!!
