'72 Internation Scout with a 345. In the rear view mirror you see a cell phone on the step of a 98 T600 that don't have to run.

No way I've got 20 more years of this

Devils advocate here. There is a reason many aftermarket parts have a bad reputation. Take the alternator out of my truck the other day. Chinese knockoff, weighed 1/3rd as much as the OEM alt and caught fire.

However, i have also used aftermarket parts before and they were just as good as the OEM part. So its a buyer beware thing. That said the other thing to look at is parts avalibility. When i was looking at trucks before i got my lonestar in MY area at least, the DD15s were as much as 3 months out for some parts. And the shops had a 1 to 3 week wait to even look at it.

The cummins hardest to get part was 3 weeks and less then 5 days for service. Cat had everything in stock and could get me in same day. There is also reliability to be considered as that needs to be factored in. DD15s are known to usually last around 600-800K where as its pretty rare to hear of a cat dieing before a million.

Those have value of their own and need to be considered as well.

Consider this. IDP, PAI and Interstate McBee don’t want your old part as core. CAT does! Hmmm…. Wonder what cat would want USED liners and pistons for? (rhetorical question by the way)
