Those are some ugly numbers. No no no you go home, or at least I would.

If it loaded in the same town that you were in and it took you very close to home then I would look at the numbers of whatever that would be more closely. But I would not deadhead 150 miles for a lousy heavy load that I have to sit and wait to get loaded and increase my time to get home and wait to get unloaded. I mean that deadhead itself is long enough if you just basically double the time you'll be home.

And if you are going anywhere that there are shards of metal on the ground no no no no no. 1 flat tire is going to cost you more than the little bit of money you would make off of that headache load. And God forbid you get two flat tires.

I do a bit of scrapping and I won't even take my tractor into the scrap yard, I have another truck for that.

I know you only gave two options but if I wanted to do something else before I went home if it were me I would look for a shorter load that paid better to make a little hop toward home.

I would find plan C but since that’s not an option in this scenario I’d go home empty.

I don’t see how you could make any money below 1.65 a mile with paying yourself and having your own authority.

So, I’d tell him 950 or you’ll pass. Why work for free if you can go home and not work for free there.

Next time try and plan things better to not be so far from home and in a dead area.

I'll be looking for plan C tomorrow morning. Definitely don't want to go home empty if I can help it.

I have a sweet load from Corpus to Midland on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so I get stuck here on Fridays. It sucks, but it still ends up worth it. With those two loads, I can haul shorter the other days, and still average almost 1k per day through the week.

FWIW, i run for a very small outfit. Ran a GOOD load to Taunton, MA deliver early Friday morning from central Ohio. Only thing boss man could find was a garbage load coming out of a landfill for 750$. He told them to pound sand and deadheaded me from Taunton to home in northwest Ohio to be lined up for Monday morning GOOD load. Paid me for the deadhead but said wasn’t worth tearing up equipment going to landfill for a crap load.

I leave Virginia for Baltimore almost every week for around $700-$800 on about 175 miles.
Once I get there I can get reloaded back to Virginia for max of maybe $350-$400. Half of what I started with.

Here is my philosophy. If I'm going to get reloaded its going to be something along the way home, and I'm not going out of my way to get it, or deliver it. I know some will say that's extra money your losing, but it's not worth my time.

That cheap load money will take every bit of 12 hours of your time involved in picking it up and delivering it. I'm going to spend a quarter of that money in fuel 25% for a broker that wants to pay 30 days later or deduct an extra $20-$30 off the top.

Forget it. I'd rather be home watching Netflix or doing something else rather than to help out a business that make MILLIONS for broker's and shippers

Mt. 625 gross on 500 miles is horrid.

The fuel on MT at 350 miles, is going to be pretty cheap.

At 80k pounds, is it on flat ground or West Virginia? I normally don't do max weight on steep hills, even if it pays well.

Empty. It's not an abbreviation for Montana.

We'll either I've got my head screwed on tighter than I thought, or we're all crazy. Maybe I'll make a trucker yet. Thanks, everyone.

Where I've been rolling, the steepest swells on I-10 will only put you in 8th gear. Nothing like getting in and out of West Virginia. If you're talking about the road I'm thinking. Long and steep. Never did it in a big truck, but about 20 years ago, I dragged five tons over it with a '99 Ford Ranger and 150 horsepower. That sucked.
