If your OTR Verizon Wireless is the place to be. Best service period.
If your regional... well it depends... lol.
Like in South Texas as long as you stay on the freeway Verizon is as good as I just explained. BUT, once you get off the freeway, well... not so much. AT&T works well down here. I have Tmobile now and only complain when I am in Laredo. Works everywhere else amazingly well.
And if your asking why I went with Tmobile instead of going with the other aformentioned two? Tmobile offers free netflix and music streaming.

Depends on the area one runs.
Over on the east coast. Options for coverage are much better then the west coast.
Every carrier has improved on their coverage within the last year. If i recall. The gooberment wanted better coverage that when out in the boonies. Someone could call 911 for emergencies. Tough to do in the old days when there was no signal.
Technology has changed. Phones have gotten better. Everyone can tell you what service was like yesteryear. Not many can tell you what has improved today. That's going to take a couple of years for the people to buy new phones that get better reception. And can receive the new LTE signals at farther ranges.
My sprint note2 has better coverage then when it came out 3 years ago. Sprint added 10,000 new cells. I don't have a new phone to see what's improved. My verizon lte phone has better coverage then my old verizon note2. Verizon has been improving their cells. And next year will start lighting up 5G towers.
I have no idea what tmo and att are doing to improve on their coverage. But the commercials are sure getting heavily advertised now. Claiming better coverage and faster speeds.
@Pmracing
Looks like the note5 didn't support talk and surf on verizon either. They're trying to get away from dual antannaes. -
Someone mentioned on page one about 5G. Not thinking that is going to start until this fall?
Have been on ATT for years w/o issue, but am in the midwest mainly. Know in the southwest Phx - LA Verizon seemed to work better a couple years ago.
Phones matter too. I was looking into the Blackberry Priv when it launched last year as I knew they bought some antenna company. But when I was in the store messing with it, Samsung & Apple devices had 3 or 4 bars while the B/berry had a single bar. I read on the forums they have since fixed that issue. Maybe it was software related? Regardless, my interest passed on it & will be watching the Samsung Galaxy S7 release on Feb 21. -
If selectel truely does use verizon post pay network it would save a bunch over going direct with verizon. Anyone know if they use the whole network for data too, or is it just for voice?

I got Verizon for coverage and T-Mobile for unlimited data.

Source on the Verizon 5g.
Everything I have read about 5g says it's still years away. Although some of the carriers are starting or have started testing.

Also I have the Note 5 on VZW and I can talk and surf all day.Last edited: Feb 18, 2016

Yes, they truly use the contract (post pay) network. In a nutshell, they don't charge you to roam on Bluegrass Cellular in Kentucky when all other VZN pre-paid carriers either have no signal or charge you to roam if you are traveling up I-65 from the KY/TN state line to approximately mile marker 101. There are other examples (ie, I-81 from the VA/WV line to the MD/PA line, parts of Illinois, etc) but that is the gist of it. Selectel is also a BYOP/BYOD carrier, so if you have a VZN branded, post-paid phone and like your VZN post-paid phone, you can keep your VZN post-paid phone.
EDITED TO ADD:
Everything I said in this post was just confirmed via chat on the Selectel website. I had forgotten they also have MiFi devices.Last edited: Feb 18, 2016
Reason for edit: talked to Selectel via chat after making the initial post. edited to add that info. -
i found posts dated september on the developers sight of not being able to talk and surf on the note5. For both carriers.
Looks like the note5 wasn't the only phone with issues.
There are also other threads dated earlier. With the same issue.
There are some posts started in november where sprint released a patch. But i haven't read the posts yet or done some further digging on the issue with either carrier. Maybe it was an issue that's since been resolved. @Pmracing will have to get a hold of sprint to see if that's the case.
I know when i bought my verizon s6. It wouldn't talk and surf. And had the worst coverage i've ever seen out of any carrier. Practically NOTHING was being received. Turns out HD VOICE had to be activated. To receive LTE signal. Now it has better coverage then my old verizon note 2.Last edited: Feb 18, 2016

Thats not true.
With Verizon if I have a signal,.. 95% of the time it is LTE/4G. Very rare to have only 3G or 1x signal,.. and when it is,.. it would be in the most rural or mountain areas in between where most others have no signal at all.
This has been my experience and why I pay more to have Verizon service vs much more affordable service from the others.
Hurstmp4694330 Thanks this. -
Only if you have a newer lte capable phone. my older phones dont have as good a coverage and see more 3g. The newer phone sees more 4g with better coverage. But even though it says 4g. The speed is slow as 1x. Be nice if the west worked as good as the east
