    You can also close a door by ad blocking. It also gives the ability to set permissions for apps manually.

    I've always wondered why a flashlight app needs access to your contacts.

    Yes and no, even on a rooted phone you'd be prompted to gain SU status if the app tried to perform a function that required root access. If somebody gave some strange app they never heard of root aceess, then they deserve whatever happens. But even THEN a factory reset would cure it and playstore would resync the phone after. No big deal.
