I've been getting green lights for the last year and a half. Today my luck ran out, well sort of. Came into NorCal from Oregon and the chicken coop at Dunsmuir gave me the red light. I wasn't worried because I know everything is up to speed, but sometimes they find things you don't expect. Pulled into the garage and the guy looked up at me with a big smile. Wasn't sure why for a few minutes. Two other trucks in the bays next to me and I could hear the inspectors yelling at them because neither of the drivers spoke English very well and had a laundry list of things wrong with their rigs. My guy asks for my license and BOL. Didn't care about insurance or anything else. Didn't even look at my ELD. Goes to his computer for 2 minutes and brings them back. Tells me to turn on my lights, right and left signal, step on the brakes. Puts a new yellow sticker in my window and says have a nice day.

The big smile he gave me as I pulled in was because he knew he was going to have an easy inspection. i could see him giggling as his co-workers were yelling at the other drivers.

    Easiest inspection I've ever had.

That wasn’t a level one, that was a joke.

Glad it was painless for you.

As far as I remember, California scales rarely paid much attention to log books, just a quick glance. They did, however, examine the equipment's safety with more scrutiny. That's good.
Generally, English helps in the United States of America.
They should start fining those non English drivers big $$$. And it comes from a non English language born immigrant.
Every CDL applicant whose first language is not English, should undergo some English proficiency test. There are places where not knowing the language creates legal issues (signing BOLs), compromises safety, or at least creates difficult and uncomfortable situations for others.

That’s good to hear. That’s how it should be. Sometimes they Target newer Trucks. They don’t want to be responsible for a Truck they pass, if something happens down the road. Much like the Ones who obviously couldn’t read a Log book, would just glanced at it. I got DOT’d 3 times in 2 weeks. Each time real quick and easy. I also got a lot of CB compliments on my Truck. I had left the ID tag on the vent window from the Dealer. Once I took it off, no more attention. I also got pulled over 3 times for speeding, the Truck was so smooth and powerful, I didn’t realize how fast I was going. Luckily I didn’t get any tickets. I took it in and had it set at 69 mph top speed. That’s when it was still 55. Last thing I wanted was a 15 over ticket. I miss that Truck.

    SteveScott Thanks this.

People pretend they don't speak English to try to get out of trouble.
