Along with a ticket for a log violation for not having it current.

The log must be current for display to the officer, if not, they do not just give you a free chance to catch it up.

Yep, the catch up only applies to the OOS determination.

This whole thread just reminds of the lunacy of our compliance model. Yeah, I know, compliance is how a bureaucrat measures safety. And it lands us where we are: You screw up, it costs you; the DOT screws up, it costs you. Common sense is no longer allowed. Sign here, pay here, and move along!

i have seen guys stop right before the scale and catch up their logs

most will just go up with their logs not current

but a "stopping on the shoulder" is less of a crime than "logs not current"

    mje Thanks this.

I wonder if drivers taking this type of action in order to ensure compliance has had a negative effect on safety?

    bingo!

Anyhow, this whole HOS and enforcement environment has gotten way out of hand, IMO.

Ah, but there is the nub! Getting tough on us is easy, politically; getting tough on the drivers of cars is a political landmine. Nevermind that it would pay far greater benefits in accident reduction to stiffen the testing requirements to get driver's licenses, that is a political landmine that none of the boys on the Hill or in the States have any desire to touch. Or for that matter, even getting tough on things like tailgating, lane changes and proper signalling would pay far greater benefit than the speed trap for revenue. But the outcry would be loud and long. And so the game goes on...:biggrin_25511:

Windsmith where you speeding ? When bobtailing to get grocerys or whatever take it easy, someone might have called in on ya. Towns don,t want a truck racing around or even parking in there town. The scale master is right, you have to log, the inspection on duty. That,s the risk you take, the other option is taking a taxi , it,s not 1990. Your fair game for inspection anywhere and everywhere. The dot will cut you a break sometimes, but you have to communicate with them. Ask the dot not to put any of your personnel info on the report, like your name and lic. #. The dot was sitting on the shoulder s. of Milwaukee on i-94 e, he saw the mud flaps tie wrapped to the dot bumper- that,s co. policy when you have blow a tire and the reg. mud flaps fly off from the tire blow out. He pulled me over at the fuel island, I told the senior dot officer not to put my info on the repair warning. Because I was getting the mud flaps repaired correctly at the Chicago terminal, before I brought the container 2 the railyard. I didn,t log the stop, because my name or lic. info wasn,t on the paper work.:biggrin_255:
