Actually user name, I don't think sitting and doing the written test is really going through the hoops with no idea what I am doing. I have been unemployed for nearly nine months, so I got my CDL hoping that would give me more options. Still, unemployed, I decided to add endorsements to my CDL which I thought would just be an extra feather in my hat. I just wasn't sure on the whole process with the finger printing and back ground check as the lady at the DMV didn't speak English and it was very difficult to understand what she was on about. SO, thats why I came here to find out!

I just got my CDL A
My endorsements are X & T I understand that X is Hazmat and tanker or Hazmat in Dry box trailer T is Tripple and Doubles. Is there supose to be an Air Brake endorsement or is that covered under the CDL A?

If you have a CDL, you have an air brake endorsement, it is just not actually shown on your license. If you weren't allowed to drive with air brakes, THAT would be stated on your license.

You have to be fingerprinted for the background check and retake the test for endorsement every time you renew your CDL . The classroom hazmat has to be renewed every 3 years .

I've never had to renew my classroom hazmat, that is a company by company thing. I have a couple of hazmt companies that require I retake their video hazmat training every 6 mos. if I don't hual from them on a weekly basis.

It's a Federal requirement to be renewed every 3 years . I have been asked for my certification card at scales .

Hmm. I have had my hazmat since 1990. I retake the written at the DMV every 4yrs and in August when I renewed, I did the written test and then fingerprinting.

I have never heard of any 'classroom' type of training nor any requirement to renew it ?? :biggrin_2554: - nor any card to carry other than the endorsement on my license.

However when I obtained my TWIC, the lady asked me WHICH Hazmat endorsement I had...the HME (License kind) or the CARD - which I suspect is what RickG is saying...
I wonder where I can get some additional and ideally local info? - The last time I worked for a company and ran chlorine, all I had to do was watch their company video.

You can google FMCSA hazmat certification training and find online courses that will give you a card to print when you complete the course .
I also found this site with some pretty good free info .
