Hello all,
I’m new to this site, so pardon if this isn’t in the right place. I work for a equipment rental company in Michigan as a field mechanic. I have a company box van for a service vehicle, and obtain a chauffeur’s license. My question is we have another service truck that is an International 4700, it has a normal service box and crane attached and it plated for 24000 lbs, no air brakes, all hydraulic. From what I understand, for me to drive this legally, I need to obtain a chauffeur’s license and medical card as long as it’s not over 26,000 lbs or pulling a trailer that combo’s over 26,000lbs. I am I understand this correctly or do I still need to get class B CDL? Any information is greatly appreciated.

You are correct in your assumption, no cdl needed. 26k is the magic number in Michigan.
x1Heavy Thanks this. -
26,001 pounds is the magic number.
IF the VIN or Vehicle Factory Plate for Weight said 24,000 Have at it all day long. I think a Class C would cover that. I gotta brush up things have changed. But you don't need a Class B because it's under 26,001 pounds gross.
KEEP IN MIND.....
If your vehicle has AIRBRAKES you need that on your license too.
I am not current in vehicles lately of that range of cargo and weight. Ive been absorbed in my own fight for a better future this year so take my comments with a grain of salt. Im sorry I cannot stand tall and say this be the gospel but I have to be careful and not confuse the issue. -
Thanks for the input guys. Very much appreciated.
