I run completely legal...I log it as I do it. I make money, Good money! and I get more rest these days than I ever have in thie industry. I get my freight there on time and still have time to keep my equipment nice.

The main ingredient to doing it legal is to keep the d*mned left door shut! I easily run 650+ miles a day by staying in the seat! My truck is fast (but I do the speed limit) and has good power which helps but it's mainly solid steady running that gets me there.

In all the years that I've been out here I've NEVER been shut down for ANY reason. I was DOT'd in California on monday of this week and I was DOT'd in Colorado today with no issues.

You can keep it legal...If you want to.

Depends on who you are with. You have a gig that you can do it. I know a lot of places you can't.

Yeah, I've driven for one or two outfits that felt a driver's insistence on safety and compliance was far too inconvienient to deal with. Drivers who ran legal found themselves out of work. Not fired, no no. That would be illegal. But it is amazing what reasons companies can come up with to get rid of drivers who prefer safety over the all-mighty dollar. Violating company policy seems to be the favorite.

Black W 900 knows what he's talking about. If you're a day driver, you need to be rolling by 430am, only stop for fuel and combine it with grub/shower. No goofing around. You can then shut down by 5pm, get a spot, have a meal, do paperwork and be tucked in by 8 pm. IF you run into an unforseen problem, you can still probably get your miles in since you started early. Driving is your first priority. :walk:

I see you have been around awhile BW9, longer than me.
I'm sure you haven't always had that job. I'm willing to bet you paid your dues and did a lot of the same things many of us have done over the years because we felt we had to or were just too young to care.

That's the point I was trying to make earlier. There are a limited number of those good jobs and everybody can't have one. Not enough to go around, no matter how qualified somebody is.

I'm in a good situation myself, and I don't take it for granted.
And I sure don't forget where I started.
I figure let them other boys do what they feel they have to do and they will hopefully have an oppurtunity to better themselves one day.
Surely some will crash and burn. Them things happen and no amount of preaching or rulemaking will prevent it. It never has.

This wasn't directed at you BW9, just using your post as a springboard.

Military figured that after 48 hours of being awake, they could still trust me with a Gun....
I would NEVER cheat on my Log. My wife would get upset with me. I can't tell you how many times I had to spend my 34 hour breaks just 15 miles from home because I ran out of time to drive that last 15 min. Missed a lot of appointment times because I was 10 miles short when My 11 hours were up.
I realize that the way the Laws are, there is NO way of obeying them all, but I Obey EVERY Law of this Land. Pay more than what they ask me to pay on Taxes also. I want to Keep Big Brother happy with me all the time! I would NEVER do anything to upset Big Brother!

There are times that it is safer to be creative than it is to be legal. If you have been up all day waiting for a load, you might be legal to drive, but not safe.

Logging illegal is just a good way to make the company money. It's not like they're gonna be grateful. Think they will? Get caught sometime, and see how quick they toss you over the back of the sleigh.

In our state, it is a 330 dollar fine, Most of our drivers feel that it is worth the chance. You can make 300 per week more and get caught 2 or 3 times per year.
