I isn't ridiculous, it's practical.
Those hours are set up to protect drivers from those that would abuse them.
Does it get inconvenient at times? Sure. It does for me as well.
But it is there, none the less. We have to live with it.
You seem to think that ranting about it will make any difference at all, but it won't.
You will be on e-logs soon, and you need to adjust how you do things. -
In my more than 2.5 years doing this, both long haul and regional, I can count on one hand the times I've been "10 minutes" out on my 16 hour clock.
While, yes, it is an inconvenience, if you are having this occur on a regular basis, it might be time to look into a truck with a sleeper, or making better arrangements with your employer.Tb0n3 Thanks this. -
I never had an issue with stopping 2 hours from home if out of hours and did it many times. I don't know why it's hard to believe but when I talk about fudging for a mere 10 or 15 minutes I'm not lying.Farmerbob1 Thanks this.

I just started working for a tanker company and have to do a week on a trainer's truck learning the loading and unloading procedures and particularly for the dedicated customers we haul for, their procedures. His Kenworth isn't yet equipped with ELD, so I'm on paper logs until I get my own truck(and possibly after if I get one of their Kenworth). Was nice to be able to be flexible, but I didn't really need to be flexible because I never had to really wait and also we have a Texas clock so 12 hours of drive time and 15 hours on duty, which stops when you log off duty. I have literally no reason to cheat now that I'm on paper logs. First world problems lol
Farmerbob1 Thanks this. -
I don't know if 15 hour work days quite equate to first world problems. more like 3rd world problems.
