On a fixed spread, they always install the lift in the the front axle, and the dump on the rear. Does any one know why they don't put both the dump and the lift kit on the rear axle?

Usually they will put the abs on the rear axle. Putting the lift there will cause a fault.

Lifting the rear axle can cause damage to the tires off said axle when you hit potholes.
Secondly you Take Weight off the drives when you lift the rear. -
I don't know why you would want to lift the rear axle, I #### sure wouldn't want 10' of trailer swinging around.

My 53' stepdeck has lifts on both rear axles, can run it as a tandem or a spread when all 3 aren't needed. Will generally run it as a tandem when I am empty in town for better/shorter turning, spread when out on the open road. Been known to lift both when in really tight situations where there is room for the swing but need shorter turning radius. About the same amount of swing as a car hauler.

Have any of you ever added a lift axle later? I was curious about the amount of work. I know most manufacturers will sell the kit to do it for like $1500.

I'm looking in to adding lift front dump rear on the new to me 2015 48 x 102 antares. It's got front and rear sliding axles that slide separately. Lift kit for one axle is $500 but its what shop told me on the phone. Next week i i'll go and see parts man and find out exactly what it will cost me.
