The actual reading is the use of the highbeams when meeting or overtaking a vehicle.
If you write such a ticket, I would imagine a judge would laugh it out of the court.[/quote
You might be surpised. Got a lot of drunks over the years for flashing, and no they weren't laughed out of court. Truckers included as ones that were drunk. 2 to be exact, the last was in 2006 that was flashing highbeams, he thought my highbeams were on and wanted to gice me a courtesy flash. Only problem was his courtesy cost him a little bit. Fired from his carrier, loss of a CDL for 1 year etc.Click to expand...
The police around here will not considder such a ridiculous ticket.
It is a reason for them to pull over a vehicle with cause, but not something they will just right a ticket for.
If you want to get picky, when a truck turns off their lights to let a truck know it is passed, they have violated the law as well. The law requires the use of the headlights during the period from sunset to sunrise.Click to expand... -

In regards to flashing to let a truck know he's safe to pull back in, I have never written a ticket , warning or stopped one for that. I know what they are doing. In regards to flashing ,for "move out of my way I'm passing', that's a little different. Or when you meet someone on the road and they flash their highbeams because they believe your brights are on. I have locked up a many drunks that have done this, including 2 truckers who were drunk. I had one trucker run up behind me and flash his highbeams to get me out of his way. I've had numerous motorists, mostly cars and only one truck that would highbeam going the other way. And no they weren't laughed out of court. I have used this as probable cause many times in the middle of the night and I believe the only tickets I have written have been off drunks as that was the probable cause for the stop. Usually write warnings when the person isn't drunk.dieselbear said: ↑Must be a local thing.

If I meet a vehicle and it has the brights on and they do not dim, I will flash them. Once it was a cop. He immediately turned his lights to dim. If he were to write me a ticket, I would have expected he would need to write himself one in order to support it.Click to expand...James Johnson and Red Fox Thank this. -
There are a lot of reasons we do it. I put on my hazard lights on and let the driver of the car letting them know it OK to pass in front of me. And I flash my lights on and off for a thank you for letting me pass you. BTW I have drive a 2003 Freightliner classic. She a beauty.

Bump. I’ve been noticing a lot of dry vans lately running more strobe lights than an oversized load. I see this mainly in Texas. I’ve had a few situations on two lane roads where I thought an oversized load was coming at me but it was just a freight hauler. Am I the only one slightly annoyed with this?

Just wave that's good.kjax said: ↑Hi,
I'm no trucker, but I do spend quite a bit of time on the highway commuting.
Since I tend to do most of my driving at night, I generally drive with a lot of truckers on the road and have noticed a lot of you flash your lights to communicate with each other, or me. (I'm unsure sometimes)
Usually when a truck pulls into the left lane and passes another trucker, I've noticed you turing your lights off and on again once back in the right lane to signal the other trucker, I assume, as a thank-you. Sometimes I also see you using your signals after the fact.. left and right turn signals or else your hazards and I'm unsure if these are directed towards me.
When someone pulls into the right hand lane after passing someone else I usually attempt a thank-you (for getting out of my way lol) by flashing my hazards. Is this an appropriate response to you all?
I sometimes get a response of a high beam flash which I assume is usually a 'you're welcome'...
Anyway I just want to know is there some unwritten rules to light flashing? And if not what would be the best way of thanking you guys and gals for moving aside to let me pass?Click to expand...
