I see this alot also. I only spend one night out in the truck and where I park not only am I usually the only one with my lights on, but I seem to be the only one who idles all night as well. My company is kinda strict about idlling, were required to shut off our trucks while delivering, but when laying over were allowed to idle.

The trucks that are shut off are not just trying to save fuel but trying to get a good nights sleep.
Even though I've been driving for 10+ years, I still enjoy a peaceful night of sleep. -
But, I'm not going to sleep at night with my lights and engine off, in a tight parking area, unless spots on BOTH sides of me are already taken.
FYI...Police reports require an ON DUTY status, breaking my 10. Why should my load be late, because the guy next to me has trouble sleeping. And the guy getting in the other spot....can't see me, let alone back a truck. -
BTW, if you Newb's want to see a cop go bats, crunch a tanker. God help you if you actually manage to hole one. Guarantee you'll be fired with prejudice.
