And as far as the thread-jack goes-I don't have a clue what the answer to the original question is, so that shows you what I know.
I only got into learning anything about this stuff because there is so much conflicting information in the CB world. Some people want a radio that will "lock down" the truckstop, or the channel, or whatever. Some people, like me, want a radio that is as clear at 5 feet as it is at 5 miles(and vice versa). When you read what someone writes on the internet, it's hard to know what it is they're looking for out of their radio, and I think that's why it get's so confusing. I've tried all kinds of different stuff trying to get my radio sounding good, I even used to run a Daiwa RF440 speech processor. I tend to overdo things when I get interested in them, and then learn just enough to make a fool of myselfAll that to say, Clantonman, just talk and have a good time, and like GP said a while back, if it's good for you-it's good. I would love it if WA4GCH or somebody would explain the amplifier classes in layman's terms though. No pressure.

I'm running W2IHY gear on the Pro 2 with a Heil PR-40, nothing but flowers on 10m as far as audio goes but all that comes with a price tag thats pretty big.....
check this out guys....some zipper head in the TA truckstop down the road is playing music on ch 19 and running some serious power....look at my scope on the Pro 2 !!
FriedTater Thanks this. -
Wow, what a mess! I don't know exactly what the graph means, but it doesn't look like the splatter is going to end anytime soon in either direction!
I hear you on the pricetag-CB and HAM both, cheap to get started, expensive to keep up..I am looking to get some more power out of my rig soon though-I'm ordering a reprogrammed ECMMake some power where it counts, on the pavement! Maybe keep a little more fuel money in my pocket to boot.
-
I'd dare say he's getting pretty close to that 10k wide I reffered to earlier !! He had ch 19 locked down, not that I was gonna use it anyway...its not funny but yet it is !!
Who's doing your ECM btw ?? -
Just went and looked at that W2IHY stuff, impressive! I got a pretty big grin on my face listening to the audio samples. A buddy of mine that does sound commercially in Nashville was trying to get me to set up something like that a few years ago with pro-audio type equipment, but I decided to quit while I was ahead on that deal. I love listening to clear-channel broadcast AM at night, (especially 650 WSM out of Nashville) and the audio quality on W2IHY reminded me of old Bill Cody, live from the Grand Ole Opry.

DDS-I actually just emailed him the other day, waiting on him to get back into town. I had been waiting to get cam, injectors, and a turbo and do it all at once, but I decided that was silly if I could spend a little money and get better fuel mileage now. It does pretty well like it is, 6.1-6.3 mpg out of an E model 475 with the Low-nox
tunes in it. That's running flatbed, heavy a lot of the time, but I think it could do better, and have better power too.

Yeah, Julius (W2IHY) makes some really good gear and his customer service is first rate.......W2IHY is good stuff but the guys running the full rack gear have audio that is just out of this world...
do a search for "voodoo audio" they are some hams down in the Bayou country that have a website and last I knew they had some audio samples that were just sic....these cats are running like 6k wide on SSB with full rack gear and Kenwood TS-950SDX's and TS-870's last I knew.....man they sound good !!Last edited: Nov 17, 2009

I'll have to check that out-right now it's suppertime! I'm not loading until the AM here in KC, and I've been trying not to run the truck, and I'm starting to get cold. Time to warm up.

wz5g dot net is that site btw, you will have to poke around a little to find the audio samples..
