A 497 is a 100 watt radio. Deadkey should be set at 25 watts. THATS a 1 to 4 ratio or 4 to 1 ratio WHATEVER. YOU CAN PUSH 100 watts into a straight 4 pill. But your kinda pushing your luck a little. Whoever said a straight 6 that's what I'd go with. That 497 should push it just fine... Start looking at the actual ampbuilders SPECS.AND WHAT THEY RECOMMEND

 

Put any radio on a WAVENODE WHICH IS A DIGITAL SWR WATT METER AND THEN YOU WILL SEE THAT NONE OF THESE RADIOS DO THE WATTS YOU THINK THEY DO. It's LESS. BET IT UP !!!

 

Screw that Spectrum ANALYSER THAT JUST SHOWS YOU WHAT THE RADIO IS DOING. A WAVENODE DOESN'T LIE....... AND BIRDS NOT THE WORD. RMS IS PURE POWER

 

I'd be curious what wide open means watt wise total and what your deadkey is set at on that 497. That will tell certain people a lot.

 

It's safe to say a IRF 520 MOSFET IS GOOD FOR 25 WATTS

 

Gee like none of us have heard of radios doing astronomical high watt numbers. I guess alot of cb shops and so called techs THINK WERE ALL JUST A BUNCH OF MORONS. WHEN ALOT OF CERTAIN MEMBERS ON HERE ARE SMARTER THAN THEM.UN FRICKIN BELIEVABLE....

I have a 655HP and I want to run my Palomar with it. But it’s too much power even with it on low. Any help would be nice.

 

Whats the 655 output on the lowest setting? I have a 655 but I never measured

 

I think its 12 watts..
