There are other companies out there that will take on students who just graduated from school. Heck 3 guys I went to CDL school with got hired on with a local tanker company. Werner and Swift (or CRST) are not your only options.
Do some research online. Try those big umbrella application websites (like layover and such). Fill one app out and it gets sent to a number of different companies. They'll contact you if they're interested. -
I dunno that was just one of my companies that i wrote down.
-
I would just keep trying and if you are left with just CRST then go for it for six months. I just got out of school at Swift's Academy in San Antonio and I do not regret my decision on going with Swift at this point.
Back in the 90's I drove OTR for five years but swift made me go back to school. I am going to plan to stay at Swift for at least one year then maybe move to better grounds if things are not going right.
I would do what you have to do just to get your experience. -
Yes im gonna apply at covenant and crst ill suck it up for a while.

STay away from the mega-carriers! They are already lying to you! Telling you that you must go team and can't go solo because of an accident! What a load of crap that is! Typical though! You are on the right track with texas express. Go for the medium to smaller companies. Please don't waste valuable time and money at the mega-carriers. You are just going to wind up in the same position you are now with less money and a messed up DAC report. You do need to put forth more effort though. This is why all the newbies think that SWift and Werner etc... are the only companies out there. Mainly because you just have to put your name on a piece of paper and you are hired! The more effort it takes to get hired on then the more worth it the company is. Go for the companies that aren't advertising as much. This means less turnover rate. Try careersingear or bigrigjobs. You can type in your city and they will give a list of carriers hiring in your area. Also never go for any companies recommended by your school. Most of the time your school is being paid by them to send you to them. So the lowdown, do your homework! Stay away from the megacarriers! Put forth some extra effort, don't follow the herd! Non advertising companies are going to be your best bet. Any questions? Good luck! Now get to work!!!

The carriers are not telling me i have to team drive. The job placement lady is.....
-
What does she know about trucking? Obviously nothing if that is what she's preaching to you!
-
Thats what i came on the site for to get a 2nd opinion. Im signing up on big rig jobs. I also called a carrier in Dallas and left a message to get back to me. I am putting some effort i def. dont want to be stuck with out a job....
-
You are not going to be stuck without a job. There are over 450,000 trucking companies in the U.S. Texas is an excellent place to be a trucker also. Your best gig would be driving for the refineries but that may take knowing someone. Also don't bet on companies calling you back. Like I said before you need to put forth extra effort. This means calling back the companies everyday and checking on your applications. Another option out there in TX is cowhaulers. Lots of beef and livestock out there. Think outside the box! Good luck to you!
