I am in the US division. I am home every weekend. I never know where they will send me. I do not know anything about gas drilling. Walmart would be a good place for your location, but he would need exp to get on there. Keep us posted on how things turn out!

Thanks for all your help. I'll post an FYI if I find more information on driving for that gas drilling company.

There is one other that needs mentioning. Tango out of Shreveport would be another to look at. I was there for about a year and when I get my truck paid off thats where I will probably lease it back on to. I was home every weekend with them and made real good money. Had to quit because of my now ex-wife. I should have quit her then and stayed with the company.

And that gas drilling company. I got a friend that got off the road a year ago and went to work for some outfit that runs water tankers up to the well sites. They're out of Russellville but I'm not sure of the name. I'll call him tonite. He claims to bring home around $900 a week working 60 hrs. I know hes runs a day cab and routes are all over northern and western Arkansas.

Oh my...that sounds wonderful. It just seems that you have to do one of the "big" companies for a year so you have experience? Am I right?

I pulled a tanker back in the 80's with A KW hauling water in KS after I got out of the Army. It was my 1st civilion gig driving for a oil rig outfit.

Since my last post, my husband has been set up to start Schneider in TX on the 26th. Worrier me...I worry about that heart rate test. He is 58 after all. Tough decision here...he has also been offered a job locally that has nothing to do with trucking BUT, the pay is not good. Between today and Monday, we have to decide which to do. I'm afraid he will turn down the sure thing local job and then be sent home from Schneider after that PWT. (I've read too many younger guys posts about failing) I think my question is this: Is the PWT just a Schneider thing?

I know no one else can make this decision for us, but promise me he would make more than 400 a week :biggrin_2552: Thanks!

Bluekat, I can tell you a little bit, rumour has it that a lot of truck drivers come from the construction field, so transport companies are not willing to pay any more than the average construction worker makes. That is bogus, after almost thirty years in the field a construction workers average hours are about 45 to 50 per week, not double that which is what they do to you. If it was fair we should be making almost double what they earn since we are at it a lot longer every week. On a local level, near HBG, Pa. the average pay of most local jobs is about twelve dollars an hour, there are some better paying jobs but they require 3 to 5 years exp. The local work, just like OTR, has good points and bad points, if you can't make at least six hundred a week, don't take the job. Thie is just my opinion, professional carpenters,(me) should be making a min. of twelve bucks an hour, foreman are getting about sixteen or better, if you are willing to travel there may be some bonus money that applies. I run my own contracting bus. when not trucking and I am charging around 45 per hour.
I hope this is helpful to you, knowledge is power. drive55cat

That's basically what I was hoping to hear. The other job is retail and would only pay slightly over 400/wk. I am certainly hoping he would make more in trucking. Besides, we have a small fortune invested in the CDL training program he went to. I just worry about that PreWork Test and the heart rate thing. (Bird in the hand vs one in the bush type thing). IF, however, that is just a Schneider requirement and he should fail, then he could just go with another company...right? I'm going to buy a good heart rate check and put him on the treadmill today.

Thanks for your posts. I'm still offering a cup of coffee in Little Rock.

Investing in a school or holding a CDL and not using it often makes one ponder " now why do I have this or why did I pay for this if I am not going to use it?"
