In an attempt to NOT end up on Mac's Flatbed Wall of Shame.
I'm seeking advice. In three days I'm scheduled to haul a load of live trees to a residence in Minnesota. I've hauled lumber and other building products, but never live trees.
What do you recommend for strapping them down?
What is the safest way to haul them?
Might a short side kit help? About 18"tall?
This will be on a flatbed. The shipper is going to provide a mesh tarp. They are going to be 6-8ft Pine trees, bare root stock, wrapped.
Thanks.

Throw straps over the root ball, tarp and roll.

I've only done them once. They did pretty much everything. From loading and the mesh tarp was theirs as well. I had to stop 3 or 4 times to reconfigure and retie the their tarp to keep it from becoming a road hazard. But it was pretty easy and straight forward.

I haul trees every spring. I made a delivery today and load again tomorrow. I put straps on every other row across the balls. Snug the straps, than again in 30 miles.
When loaded my trees lean front to tail, opposite from the picture Hurst posted.
I've never hauled bare root either. Always balled trees.
Some shippers like to use bungees to hold tarp. I like string. String you can tighten. If the net gets too loose and starts flopping in the wind, the trees can saw through the net.
Easy loads, balled trees not move much. Not sure how to strap bare root.
Good luck -
Did someone say pine trees?
