This or even ramp issues. I've loaded steel sheets out of a warehouse with a ramp to back up into the door. The long tail and low height of a hotshot gooseneck had them unable to clear onto the ramp even unloaded.

This right here. Growing up everyone always said put the weight over the tandems. Was older and more educated when I learned that was wrong. Ran a lot of hotshot in the oilfield and guys of all ages would want to argue. They were all taught the same thing. Told them to do a little research on Google and they will find out a lot of the things they were taught were wrong.Another Canadian driver and Lab_Rat_Logistics Thank this.

Not in new cars! When I was running the terminal I hated to see hotshots, mainly because most didn't have the slightest clue what they were doing. Very few were even setup to meet manufacturer requirements on new cars. A basket strap is a no-no.
And the dealers would much rather check in 9 cars at once instead having to make 3 trips out with a wedge.Oxbow, Another Canadian driver, JoeyJunk and 1 other person Thank this. -
Don't deal with new cars unless they are going from a dealer to the customer and then they want hotshots over 9 & 10 cars.. I just took a new Savana cab & chassis with a KUV utility bed on it out to San Deigo last week and I'd love to have seen a 9 or 10 car hauler get it there.. ;pAnother Canadian driver Thanks this.

I thought so too but my last job was 2 new pickups from the port. I told broker I would have to strap second one with lasso straps. He said as long as its not through the rim it will be fine. BOL also said no lasso or chains so I sent him a picture of lasso strapped car on my trailer and he said it was fine. I screenshotted the conversation. Go figure...Another Canadian driver and Lite bug Thank this.

What the broker says and what manufacturer policy is are not necessarily the same thing. Every haulaway manual I've ever seen is very specific that only over-the-tread is allowed, and lasso and baskets are specifically forbidden.
But there's a lot of stuff done everyday at the ramps that's outside the rules. *shrugs*Oxbow, Another Canadian driver and 24kHotshot Thank this. -
Don't tell anyone, but if I'm using lassos I actually prefer to wrap the wheel vs going over the tire. They never come loose doing that. Just have to be careful and protect the wheel. You just can't do it to certain wheel finishes, like the black matt ones they use on 4wd trucks sometimes. I hate using a lasso around the wheel.
In 3 years I've never had any damage. I just stay away from new cars most of the time due to too many rules from the brokers.. I'm ok doing new fleet cars going to companies but I won't do new cars from dealers to customers or new to dealers.. too many headaches in those and the pay is usually not any better than I can find with used stuff where there is way less risk of them claiming damage.Last edited: Mar 31, 2022

New, pretty much always want over the wheel. I've even heard they gripe about frame chains, which used to be the standard.. With that said most modern hotshot car trailers have the ability to do over the wheel 3 point straps.Another Canadian driver Thanks this.
