they don't post the rate because they want to see what is the lowest you'll haul it for

The broker boards not load boards are in a partnership with brokers. They have no interest in putting prices out there like a dinner menu.

Oh, anyone ever see a shipper posting loads on the broker boards? I wonder why?

Not exactly the way it works. Many times they post the best rate they can afford. If they don't move the loads the broker is out and they give the contract to another broker. I move steel from Huger, SC for one broker. He posts a rate that blows all the other brokers out of the water. He makes $50 on each load he moves and he moves about 12 a day 7 days a week. Many are repeat carriers like myself.

Shippers know what freight lanes pay. They aren't stupid. If their loads aren't moving it's because a broker is trying to keep too much then they simply get of them.

A broker can afford to piss off and lose 1,000 truckers. They can't afford to lose 1 single shipper.

steel rates are standardized. you can go to the steel company website or call and find out what the broker is paid. That is not to say there isn't ocassionally a hot load they loosen the purse strings, but there is no reason to play guessing games on steel. Shippers do post loads on boards, one of mine just started doing so out of one location. It's not real common, but it happens. I predict you will begin to see it more and more. Watch for it.

roanokesteel.com - click quick links and freight matrix

    nucoryamato.com - click freight rates

clicking around on nucorbeam.com I found Berkeley, SC pricelist fairly easily.

If you can't computer, just call them. they'll tell you. It's usually a cwt + %fuel.

I thought everybody knew that. sheesh.
