When you first start out, how do you know how much to charge on rate? i will be pulling dry van. I know my break even point, but i don know what to charge because i dont know what the lanes charge. so, if my break even point is 1.50 how much should i ask for? i dont want to be hauling cheap frieght. The $1.62 is the average for me currently just to be clear. Several of the load boards you can purchase the "Rate Index" and it should give you a good idea. I do not currently purchase that feature and I am not sure where the info actually comes from or how truthful it is. As a newcomer myself I have been taught to look at several things: Where E/W and N/S interstates intersect around major population / industrial centers the pay generally not that great going in however the pay coming out should be good. Going into Atlanta / Savannah / Charleston typically does not pay great but headed out of those areas is typically pretty good. Coming out of FL is awful but if you take the chance then going into FL should pay great. Not sure where you are located but some of the same principles should apply. Get a good idea by calling three brokers on three different loads coming from w/ in 50 miles of each other and going within 50 miles of each other and it should give an average of what they are offering and as it has been mentioned before always ask for more - maybe 10% more. It adds up over time and as you develop relationships with brokers they are more inclined to offer you better rates to begin with once they know you can provide timely / good service. Hello everyone, I'm a trucker's daughter who recently started his own company. We have everything set up but struggle getting loads from C.H Robinson. Athough they have great loads every once in a while and pay quickly, I have a hard time moving my trucks. As most dispatchers I try to give them the best loads I can find, and hate it when they're not rolling because I can't find them a good load to haul. Not to mention the prices, C.H pays very well on some loads, but poorly on others and though negotiation can occur from time to time it usually doesn't exceed 50 bucks. They're great, and to date haven't had a problem with them but i'd like to loo into other options. I've heard about get loaded and Transcore, but I'm not sure how they work, and whether you actually get better rates with these load boards and more options when it comes to load availability. Also, what's an acceptable time frame to get paid would I need a factoring company if I decide to work for them?

All clarification will be greatly appreciated, and forgive my ignorance. Thanks!

Get in with schneider,

they have the BEST freight all over the country. However, it may take a bit to get in with them.

 

The big difference is more options with TransCore. Plus they tell you what the avg price in the lane to ensure that you can negotiate intelligently.

Thanks Donder! I know with transcore I'd probably need to use a factoring agency, is it the same with Schneider? or do they have a quick pay option like C.HR
