I agree Bill. I always have searches of 100 mi outbound and inbound of DUB. You would be surprised of what you would learn. It is always good to know when one of your customers is using a broker. The more you know about your market the better decisions you will make.

If you want to continue with DAT, you may check the mymembersedge, which is OOIDA's board. It is a DAT board. Members can get a discount on the board. I don't know if their policy is different that the regular DAT board concerning multiple users. All you need to do is be a member of OOIDA. I do know that when you post a truck on mymembersedge that it goes to DAT 360.

Most o/o who book their own loads use load bords to find spot market freight. The problem is the rares. As several have mentioned you MUST know your cost to know if a load is worth hauling. There are times when you will haul for less than you want to to put you in place to load a high paying load. The spot market rates move around from city to city a lot and the best way to keep up with it is either pay for the service with someone like transcore or do it your self by checking rate in a list af diffrent citys all over your hauling area, I do this all over the US weekly. I keep working my way to the areas where the rates are highest. Such as when produce season is in the rates will come up for dry freaidht be cause everyone with a reefer is hauling produce while rates are up.

The rates these loadboards post for different lanes should be taken with a grain of salt. I find that I can usually get a better rate than I see published. Not every broker or shipper reports the rates that they book freight. They can be used as a guide to let you know what may be going on in certain freight areas. I believe in using any tools at my disposal.

Essentially, all load boards do the same thing, with a few small differences. The key is where the most shippers/brokers are posting & therefore the most loads are available. Therein lies the best value. It doesn't matter if your board is $5 less per month unless that draws in the posters.

I hate free trials that want CC.

You use the word "backhaul". Only brokers or uneducated truckers use that. It cost me the same to run my truck away from my home base as to it. It is nit picky but I know plenty of O/O that will see that and not go any further.

The only loadboard that I currently subscribe to is mymembersedge, which is DAT. At one time I subscribed to www.getloaded.com and www.internettruckstop.com as well as www.mymembersedge. Since I mostly do business with the same people, I rarely post my trucks on public loadboards. Several of my friends dropped www.getloaded.com when they jumped their rate up so much a couple of years ago.

Although, most loadboards are pretty much the same, some have more LTL freight or freight into or out of certain areas. Most of those whom I know will subscribe to subscribe to www.mymembersedge.com and/or www.internettruckstop.com.
