It seems to me that brokering is where the money is. If it takes a driver 3 days to move a load to make 500 profit but takes a broker 2 loads to make the same 500 dollars in 1/2 day; why isn't everyone tring to open brokage companies?

I can't recall if we tried them. I'll have to ask my son, he dispatches me and a few others, he'd know if we did or not. I not, we'll prolly be checking them out. Heck, 15 days of "free" sounds good any time! LOL.
Sign up for their 15-day trial. Even if you're not ready to hit the road yet, you can "pretend" you are and see if you can find loads for yourself. That's what we did in the beginning. We started out with 4 and have settled on ITS, 123Loadboard, and MyMembersEdge. We rarely used GetLoaded so we got rid of it. Not enough freight that wasn't one the other boards for us.
Much Success!

Hey guys I have been reading through this thread. My husband and I currently leased on to a company pulling dry freight for $1.35 empty or loaded. But we are really getting tried of this and would like to get our authority and get rolling. Our scare is that like everyone we have bills to pay and a truck payment. We have been in this business for over 5 years and have always depended on someone to look for our loads, So the scary part of getting our authority is the inexperience with the load boards.
We have also considered in getting into the flatbed division but do not have to much experience in that field as far as freight is concerned. Do anyone have any suggestions about the flatbed and getting out authority. Thanks -
I would think that you could do at least as well as you are now, probably better. It does take time to find the right lanes and to develop some relationships with brokers or shippers who can offer the better rates. Right now, freight is down as are rates. Things should have picked up by this time of year. I assume that you are pulling a van, considering the rates for what you are pulling. You will need your own van, if you don't already have one, unless you want to pull for JB Hunt or one of the other carriers who broker freight for power only. There are carriers who pay percentage. It could be a way to feel your way around going out on your own. Landstar is probably the better known, but there are others, should you want to go that route.
When you run your own authority, you will spend a lot of time on the phone and computer. It takes time to search and book decent paying loads. Some of the more successful single truck operators are those whose spouse searches the load boards and calls about loads while the other one drives. That is true whether you lease to a carrier or run your own authority. You will need to exercise patience and diligence.rollin coal Thanks this.
