OS/OW/OD loads are usually by word of mouth. The shipper knows the guy he is shipping with. And if he doesn't their is a small clutch of them he ends up dealing with from asking others who they ship with.

If you plan to get into that business you need to get into one of the companies who has a direct shipper of "Big loads"

That's a pond you should know who's in the water before you realize it's not a small body of water. The big fish could swallow you up and not realize you were even there.

Personally I like 123loadboard, I do all of my searching from my iPhone and rarely pull out the computer. Their app is really simple to use and I've gotten some decent loads out of there even a couple LTL loads to fill a hole or two on the deck. Only downside is when your looking for specific dates... You tend to get more of the "now" loads rather then the "then" loads.... MYdat is useful for routing and other info but the only other board I've used was rightnowloads.com and that was only for a month.

 

An ex-landstar broker told us that Landstar takes 40% off the top of any load that goes to outside trucks. They pay their leased trucks MUCH better. Don't know if that's always true, but we did have a broker accidentally give us a much better initial rate when they thought we were leased with them.

 

If your a member of Ooida I think your automatically signed up to a load board, JJ keller I think is what it is.

 

OOIDA has a load board service called Members Edge that uses the DAT board essentially.

JJ Keller has no load board..... they are in the information and compliance biz really.

I may not be the brightest apple on the tree but I'm #### sure one of the best in taste, I may not have read the oodia page correctly and I'm wrong I am sorry but at least I am trying thats all anyone can do!!!!

 

As an owner operator my train of thought would be use the load boards first to get some income in while your wheels are turning your making money hopefully !!! unless its costing you more to move the freight than what your being paid right!!! But who works for charity??? The idea is over time is to cut out the middle man if you can get some regular work with a large company and they get to see your reliable you can take bigger profits its just a matter of hanging in there paying the bills and you will prosper this is where all those customer service skills (butt kissing) come in handy.
