I'm picking up 3 trailers going from oklahoma to California. The space required on the rate con is 51 ft. I just checked with the shipper and minimum trailer length is 48 ft. So I'm going to be hanging off by 3 ft. I'll probably have a foot or 2 to the front and the rest on the back.
To the best of my understanding I will be legal through OK TX NM AZ and CA. Some of the state's require a red flag on the overhang and some don't so I'll run them the whole way.
Big questions. Can I run at night? Are the curfews just for permit loads? Can I overhang the rear with a divisible load?
Any other advice/concerns I should be aware of?
Thanks.

Ok and Tx you're good for night . Think over 3' overhang is different. Correct if I'm wrong anybody.
Chewy352 Thanks this. -
On a 48, you can have a 4 ft overhang. OSOW rules and curfews do not apply. Happy motoring.

I'm hoping I can over hang 2 ft on the front. I'm going to find a big lot and use my dunnage to figure out how much I can get away with.

Even with divisible loads? Red flags on the overhang?

As long as the trailer is a 48 footer, and your overhang is 4 or less, the OSOW rules do not apply. So forget about the 'divisible load' part. Now, I'm not sure about the flag. There are a couple states that allow overhang on the 53s, but I can't recall which is which.
It's been a long time since I've done anything like that Chewy, so I'm not an expert on a flat anymore. I'm sure someone will be around to either confirm or let us know that I was wrong. -
Some many different rules. I long for a nice van so all I gotta do is slam some doors lol.

I'd flag it so the idiots around you see it.
G13Tomcat, Sneakerfix and Chewy352 Thank this.
