I always scaled at the most strict setting along my route. So if going in or out of Cali I would use 40'. Then I would make the shipper make it legal.

Since when does Oregon check kingpin distance?Long FLD Thanks this.
-
Oregon does if you are running over 80,000 and they have their own version of the bridge formula to go with it. Because Oregon is special, don't you know.....
-
They also check axel weights on spread axels...,
-
Sure, you can slide that and be legal. Just slide a few pallets out the back.

I've know folks who have a flagrant disregard for speed limits who have never gotten ticketed for that either, doesn't mean that they are doing something right, just means they are lucky.
Telling someone that an experienced driver isn't going to worry about *these* laws is simply irresponsible. -
I've been driving since 2002 nine of those yrs were OTR I've crossed more scales then I can count I have had inspections, had a few from randomly pulled over while driving just to do an inspection , never in my days have I received a ticket or even a warning being over length. That 72 DOT check every yr?I've most the time was the unlucky one to get inspected passed every time.So with that said, you have your way and I have mine.
-
One more thing when I said exp drivers don't worry about the length laws,i was referring mainly to myself.Although I have spoke with many veterans have I'm talken 20 yr veterans they don't worry about certain laws either because they've been doing this so long they don't need to refer back to their atlas for king pin laws,no trk routes ,ect ect it's all second nature to them.insertnamehere Thanks this.

It's Monday morning and no replies from the OP. Think he may be sitting at the terminal in the office getting his rear chewed out.
