So are you saying my 3/8 chains and ratchet binders tightened to the last turn would be bad on your alumnium trailers??? thought I was here to keep you busy in the shop LOL
..... i use the spools even on the steel Fontaines i am pulling unless the pocket is needed, then I go ALL the way around the pocket to give extra holdability

if you also run the chain along side the pocket and loop under the pocket and hook chain on other side of pocket you are using both sides of the pocket.
and my utility lists spools at 6500 wll -

My company (same as AZS) says to always use the pocket, never a spool, And we go down next to the pocket come up threw it and hook to the inside of it (to the side that pulls against the welds.

proper way is around the spools not the pockets,just ask a dot officer the next time you go threw a scale
