I guess that it has been several years since I have hauled copper pipe. Back then we loaded it on a side kit, so it was a non issue. I don't recall the reasoning why they primarily wanted side kits. Perhaps it was to prevent tarnishing, I don't remember. Rates have been too cheap for me to haul it for some time. Where my friend loads, he was told it was to prevent theft. In any case, I don't care to haul it due to the rates.

My son's truck with load of aluminum was stolen from a truck stop in VA. The truck was found quickly and the load recovered when they tried to sell it for scrap.
He was going through a separation with a vindictive/crazy wife. She called the police and told them he discussed how he was going to conspire to have it stolen. He couldn't PROVE otherwise and ended up pleading guilty to a felony. Now he has a hard time getting a job driving.
You can never be too careful with any load. I always lock the trailer. And never tell anybody what I'm hauling -

Don't forget to lock your inspection doors too. My carrier had a trailer and load lost after someone put a Molotov ####tail into the trailer via an unsecured inspection door.

The crime was in VA. He lived in VA.... Blah, Blah, Blah.
If someone accused me of something I didn't do, I'd be fighting to the end. They'd be dragging me out of the courthouse. -
Maybe his ONLY way to get away from the CRAZY ex wife was plead GUILTY and go to the BIG HOUSE.
