Load that can't be done legally

    Company driver. Too cheap to be an O/O, plus I have much, much better things to do with my income (working on building a new house).

    Didn't think I was working for a "bottom feeder" outfit. Turned out to be a bad fit, so I left.

    As far as rates, I don't know about your area (or freight, for that matter), but steel rates have been in the toilet for a year or more and are looking to drop yet again. Bugger it. I'm going back to swinging doors for a while until things get better.

    Steel rates went in the toilet over ten years ago. Never recovered and never will. Heck steel production in the us probably isn't 5% of what it was in the 90s. My solution to that was i stopped pulling steel. There is better money on moving finished goods instead of raw materials. I'd rather load a 15k pound finished product at a 50% higher rate than 48k lbs of the raw materials that went into that product.
