Load cross country from nj to la, dry van sometimes drop and hook sometimes waiting but no more than 10hrs. What would you ask for if you wor an owner operator? What would you ask for if you were part of team?

If you are an onwer operator, what would you want to get paid for that run? The team run 8500 you mentioned if you use around half for diesel team would pocket 4250 correct? Is that running cheap?

Hypothetically from Newark, NJ to LA that is a little over $3 a mile to a team truck. Not a fantastic rate imo for the ASAP service they provide but ok. If they get 6mpg at $4 a gallon on approx 2,800 miles that'll be roughly 466 gallons burned or $1,865 in fuel. I would have to have $3.25 a mile to the truck minimum on the loaded miles and that would be after Bill's company took it's percentage from the gross before I'd even touch it. In other words - not going to happen. But that's close to my actual loaded miles only rate average so why not? I know some joker would bid a load like that for $1.80 a mile and I'd laugh if they got it thinking they'd struck gold. Or even worse someone doing it for $1.50 or $1.20, $1.10, I saw $.86 several days ago... ...those are REAL spot rates for coast to coast dry van that get offered to anyone inquiring. I could be wrong but I just don't think $3.50+ a mile freight one pick, one drop exists anywhere for a solo dry van truck. It would be a waste of my time and the customers for me to even submit a bid because I don;t have the mentality that mega miles means I can run at a cheaper rate. I'm not a mega carrier making a nickel a mile off 10,000 trucks I just can't do that run for $1.80 a mile. Why do you ask this question? It's dream world stuff $3+ a mile for a solo truck going coast to coast... The ones that get that kind of rate with a dry van on those kind of long hauls piece together LTL loads on one coast then deliver on the other...

It is an ltl load but its from terminal to terminal, no stops in between no driver or co driver unloading just wanted to see what others would drive for

it would be in the $2000 range for fuel cost, then maint, cost and insurance and all but the numbers i posted is what i would do it for under my authority, if i was leased on then that would be higher becauethe company would take %25 off the top

Why do you want to take a dry van from NJ to L.A.? So that you can grab that good paying dry van freight out of L.A.? I think maybe it is more you want to drive all the way across the country. Not sure in the fascination with this. It is far easier to make money by working smarter, not harder. Short trips generally pay more per mile, and when you get good enough at putting them together you can do quite well at it. Also you can stay in the area where you live in case you need to get home quickly.
