Stockpiling isn't really feasible, unless it's nonperishables like cans of sardines. When that weak hurricane came through Virginia a couple years back and knocked out power for a couple weeks, people were buying cases of water like it was Armageddon, and I looked at them like they were nuts. We just took out some cans of tuna and held it over the candles to cook.
Stockpiling food is just going to cause more problems. And probably food wars.
