once again I learned I can’t make money leasing to a carrier.
If he was leased to a carrier they could repower the load, his insurance bill would be covered, and a carrier may loan him the money. Now he is sitting, spending money and slowing going under.
There are thousands of under funded truckers and it’s going to get worse, plans need to be made because things are going to happen.
Loan using trailer as collateral?

To the OP, never mind leasing to a carrier....
2nd....I, in no way see 13k for a turbo. Im about to spend less than that next month rebuilding my 12.7.
If I recall @Animosus is in that area and drives a tow truck. Maybe he can refer you somewhere else.......
Edit to add: I see @Animosus has already posted here...
Edit to add again..... Nevermind in my reference to the cost, its an emissions turboLast edited: Feb 26, 2023

So you sell the trailer or borrow against it, get truck fixed then next week it throws a code and derates, then it needs a one box or maybe it burnt a valve or piston when turbo failed. What is his next move?
Siinman and Short Fuse EOD Thank this. -
All good points here. A emissions VGR turbo is high dollar. Another example how trucking has gotten out of reach to the good ole boy. My thought still is that if you are leased on and don’t have 50k in your checking account. Your done. Maybe not today, but in a year or five. 100k if you run your numbers. This is not 2005, where with hard work and 15k you got a chance. Predatory tow, series of repairs, lawsuit, cargo claim not covered by insurance, etc… This is one of several other reasons why rates are low. Waiting on guys to go out of business that have driven rates down and are not in a position to win. Business is competitive and if you can’t beat the other feller, you’re gonna go down. Just a matter of time. I’m not trying to be arrogant here. I challenge every o/o to take the game serious. Every other day we hear a guy here ask how to get in the game and don’t want to hear the advice given. Want to win, have a better plan than all of us here, and do it more effectively. Wanna go easy and cheap, you will be an example.

Dam 130000 for turbo I had my c15 turbos rebuilt for $2000 3 years later still running like a champ good luck driver
RubyEagle Thanks this. -
Have you considered renting a tractor to get the load delivered? No cheap, but then with an mty trailer you can make a decision about the next step.
Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
Don't lease to carrier?
Aren't landstar and mercer and dsv carriers? -
Going to be some very good buys on equipment very soon... I have no issue on capitalizing on poor business operations of others.
