Frankly cody, with your attitude you'll never be successful at anything; certainly not as an O/O. I dunno what's got your tail in a knot but you need to give your head a shake.
Looky here.... you say you've been a driver for 10 years so you do have some success at that. Otherwise you wouldn't have lasted that long. That's a beginning and it's not nothing. So you got some work ahead of you to clean up your financials, so what? When you started trucking on day 1 did you think you'd make 10 years? Likely not!!!
Straight up, I have fallen on my face more times than I care to remember but I'm still here swinging. Stupid? Probly so, but the day I stop trying is the day they're shovelling down my grave.
The only time you FAIL is when you quit trying. So get up, tell whoever's dogging you to F--- Off and get to it. I think you can.

You go Kittyfoot! My hubby and I have been kicked down many times, and we still fight back. My hubby and I want to start our own outfit, and we know we have a bit of work ahead of us, including cleaning up our credit so that we can get the financing. It can be done, it just takes a bit of work and a lot of being honest with oneself.
Cody, you have stayed with this industry for 10 years, so like kitty said, you must have something going for you. You don't last 10 years in this industry if you don't have something going for you.
Start by talking to a personal banker at your bank for some guidance on cleaning up your credit rating and such. They can provide you with honest guidance on how to do that. -

It's not a sin to fall of the horse, but it is a sin to not get your butt back on that horse.
southernpride Thanks this. -
cody my friend don't beat yourself up because you can't buy a truck it's not entirly your fault. the credit markey has been pretty much locked up for two years now nobody is loaning money the banks have all but shut down as far as credit is concearned and finance company's are following suit all you can do is keep trying they can't hold out forever.
i know where there are 500 trucks sitting in a field , just sitting there there all repo's and the banks wont sell them , they wont even take cash now explain that to me but the banks no best.
so don't think it is all you my friend it's these economic times were going true but it cant last forever just keep trying you only need one to say yes.
good luck my friend. southernpride -
I called on a truck I think an 03 or 05 KW. It was in a auction lot. Just to see what the starting price was. Guy tells me bank has already turned down twenty grand. Tells me truck has over eight hundred thousand miles. Well that tells me there that a bank isnt interested in moving that truck that has been in that same lot for more than two months

Cody, you will have to start saving for a downpayment. There are no other options for someone in your position. There are a couple of decent lease purchase options where you own the truck on completion with no credit checks that you could go for. But the O/O dreams will have to go on hold. Good luck, I hope it works out.

BTW I bought mine at a used dealer in Omaha. You'll need about 3,000 down but the financing is a lot easier there than thru a bank. The truck came with a warranty and you could take it to anyone in the area to look over it, pull the ecm records, etc.

Not to bust your dream but if you do get a a truck purchased how are you going to take care of repairs and such if you are broke and no credit? Sounds like you need to work hard as a company driver and save your money and pay off your past debt then have a buisness plan and get your first truck.

Yes, yes, YESSS!!! There is this totally brand-new concept of saving money, that had been kept a tight secret by evil rich people! It works every time, it's almost like a magic!!!
It's very simple, you won't believe it!! It goes like this: You suck it up, cut any unnecessary spending, drive for a company for a couple years, and watch your savings account grow!!
Are you ready for the name of this awesome concept? It is called sacrifice. I'm sure it's new to people like you seeking instant gratification.
It took me 2 years to pay off $13k hole I accumulated in my previous life, and save $20k on top of that, driving for Swift.
My wife and I were renting a room, in exchange for me working on my land lord's cars during home time. I lived on bread, Vienna sausages and cup noodles when I'm on the road.
Do you think I liked doing that? Hell no. But guess what? I was able to become an O/O earlier this year.
On edit OK, maybe my smartarse remark was a bit harsh not knowing the original poster's background. He could have gotten into the situation he's in due to unforeseeable events rather than his own irresponsible behaviors. It looks more like the latter based on his attitude, but I'll give him a benefit of the doubt.
Try searching for Lone Mountain truck leasing. They still need some downpayment from what I read here, but it's minimal (a couple thousand dollars). If you don't even have the patience and determination to save $3k to attain your dream, the best advice I can give you is don't even bother thinking about becoming an O/O.Last edited: Jul 5, 2010
