Local and 30 min break.

    I've been inspected 3 times in the last year. They didn't care to look at my logs. They just wanted to see if I had a book of some sort to report hours. I'll talk to dot later. I found nowhere that says air mile work needs a 30 min brake. Just only on a road log. Not a 12 hour log.

    Really ? What other "road log " regulations are you exempt from ? Do they have a separate little green book with 12 hour rules ?

    Air mile work can be logged on line 4 for up to 12 consecutive hours. My logs would be a disaster if I had to flag everything

    I do mostly local, but I log all my time on line 3, since about half the time is driving. Guess it doesn't make much difference as lone as line 3 & 4 don't exceed 14. Usually the DOT don't even care to look at your log if you are running local.
    Actually the INTENT of this rule is for OTR drivers or drivers that are actually driving for 8-11 hours in one duty period, and not for us locals that are getting in and out of the truck numerous times each day.

    Exactly that's what I've been seeing when I looked. Mn dot told me to just log on line 4 for up to 12 hours, no break needed. Just have to keep a record of my recap. So nothing has changed with local logs at all.

    The whole idea of taking a 30 minute break is so that you do not drive tired. They want you to get out and stretch your legs, eat a sandwich, take a nap. I do not like this rule myself but the power's that be made it law.

    You need to take a break within 8 hours. Nuff Said!
