Local career ? But what type?

IDK, coming off the road, a P&D would probably drive them nuts. The best local job, and the easiest, is a line haul. It's almost like a factory job, and just as boring. Got guts? How about dump trucks? Bad time of year for that, but that was an ok job too. Regular hours, otherwise, you are kind of limited. Tankers are always goofy hours, but non-kaboom tanker is a good job too.

 

Either linehaul or fuel. I couldn’t imagine running foodservice or throwing cases of soda everyday for 30 years.

 

It will have to be gasoline believe it or not.

Or bulk tanking.

Or better yet just push rock and sand around all day in a sandbox... er Ready Mix Plant.

 

Agree. Also, any line haul company such as Estes Express, R&L Cariers, Old Dominion & others depending on where you live.

 

I did local food service for 7 months. I liked it. I drove about 15 miles per day. Most of my time was spent at the customer, waiting in line, breaking down pallets, and separating product. Some days like on Saturday I had a different route and would drive more miles, but usually under 40 miles. Local food service is good for young drivers or if you want to be physically fit. Other local driving jobs will be more driving, but less physical work, which I believe many older drivers would like.

 

It’s hard on the body for folks working for Coca-Cola or any other company moving heavy cases all the time. Food service varies a lot, but most of the product I moved was light. The heaviest products were bags of onions or boxes of potatoes. Proper lifting techniques is key to not injuring yourself. After a few weeks you’ll also be very strong, and a box of potatoes will be a joke. I was very fit when I did local food service.

 

A lot would depend on where you call local as far as which type will net you the most.
Also a lot will depend on your age and what kind of shape you are in, plus how well you take to labor, day in and day out.
At my stage in life, I would probably go with tanker, but your mileage may vary.

 

One friend of mine had a landscape supply company in Arizona, he built a flatbed truck with a knuckle boom to deliver boulders. It worked out pretty good for him.

He had a couple of transfer setups and a single axle dump too.
He now has a shop and service truck, his thinking is a lot like yours. lol

 

Fuel or linehaul. Or pray you know someone in a union grocery gig.

 

Mostly night driving is a plus
