Myself: New Driver with a mere 4k mile OTR, perfect driving record and no criminal history.

I have used Indeed to identify/apply to local driving opportunities and applied directly when Indeed fails.

I'm using "local" "ltl" "spotter" predominantly searching for opportunity. Any terms I'm missing?

I realize spotting isn't considered driving experience but currently the need for employment (don't want long gaps) and any driving experience outweighs being picky.

I've been passed over (rightfully so, i understand business is just that) to a couple of pretty good hourly driving jobs such as the Postal Service, Local Grocery & an acquaintance with his own authority who explained the sad state of trucking insurance to me.

Quite a few CDL-B opportunities have arisen but still they lack that experience factor that comes into play when applying for A jobs down the road correct?

Notably: Interview Monday - A local home improvement/lumber yard needing a B driver with Boom/Forklift exp. that i have. A concrete burial vault company need a B driver, delivering and setting up vaults for funerals.

I thus far in several weeks have only discovered one A opportunity albeit very low hourly wage ($18hr) and a high amount of physical labor. I interview Monday for this Ag company moving grain, delivering fertilizer and such come spring. A few auto's alot of Manuals (restriction) but i know how to drive a little vehicle stick and they seem willing to entertain. Might be a good opportunity to ask if i bust my butt with them, will they let me take the road test in their truck?

Otherwise the next thing i have on my radar is Yellow out of Milwaukee. Don't know much about them but they want doubles/triples, tanker and hazmat but assure me of their excellent training. More $$$ more time and most likely the same big company bs "training."

Even a class-B job that pays well is ok.
Later when you move to Class-A companies will give you a road test and maybe a little refresher with an experienced driver.
Check those jobs listed in Post #3.

ABF and R&L would be on my contact list as well as Sysco.

OP any of the big LTL carriers are going to want you to go threw their training with less than a year experience. You already have your cdl so you will breeze threw it. I cant speak for yellows training but went threw Fedex Freights program and its good training. If you wanna stay local long term. There's a lot of money to be made running LTL. Or get some time in somewhere and look for companies that haul fuel. Quick Star would be a good one.

And if you want regional Sysco then Walmart like Chinatown said.

Either apply for LTL dock-to-driver programs or even apply as a dockworker and work your way up to driver.

Yard truck, Hostler, Spotter are the same job.
    Local, home daily.
    LTL equals Linehaul, terminal-to-terminal
Dedicated means same route or same customer
Regional means staying within a limited area and that often also means home weekends. Weekends off usually means ONLY 34 hours off work but sometimes means 48 hours off.

How does one have 4k miles OTR and look for another job? You worked 2 weeks and quit or after 2 weeks you know you want to work at another company? Your next company plan on working there for a year or more, not leave after a bad day,
