Federal regs only overrule state regs IF Federal reg is more stringent.
Here in NC, there are a few state regs that over rule Feds.

Ive been doing local for the last 11 1/2 years out of 14 1/2 of driving. It has its rewards, but you will miss the open road(at least until they give you a long run, sometimes they come up) and it all comes back to you, why you went local. Now you get to look foward to the many stops, the crybaby recievers. Then if you got a good company they will pay you overtime.then later some shmuck will read the federal guidlines, realize they can take a half hour out of your day(calling it lunch, but more than likely you wont use it) then they'll say, due to federal guidelines, we aren't going to pay you any overtime, anymore. I still do both, a daily log, and a federal logbook. it pays to be safe and have a back-up.though whenever Im stopped they only ask for the daily one.
Ive done local mostly In Los Angeles, the last 4 years in Las Vegas. L.A. taught you to be very patient(trafffic, and idiots) In Las Vegas, I smile when I see traffic, If you can do L.A., Everything else is cake.

We're all local drivers but we keep a log book for company records. As for radius, I keep hearing we have a 150 mile radius here in Texas but not sure. We're also oilfield exempt which means we just need 24 hrs to reset.

trying to figure out a log book compliance problem I may have. I have a 'local' run that is 5 hours away. Pick up time is 6:00 a.m.There is a great place to sleep right at the pick up but here lies the problem: say I leave where I'm stationed at 6:00 p.m. and arrive at the pick up spot 10:00 pm(only takes 4 hours to get there) I do not get my ten consecutive hours (sleeper birth or off duty) there to be compliant with a 6:00 a.m. pick up. Soo....my other option is to leave at 1:30 a.m. and drive the run straight thru both ways. I would really like to drive down the night before because I feel it is safer, however since I don't get ten hours between my 4-5 hour drives I thinking I would not be compliant. . Thanks in adavance.

I havent logged in 15 years. I have a Peddle run that is in a Tight area. 1st stop usually 10 min. from the terminal. If i drive a total of 80 miles in an 8 1/2 hr. shift , thats the max.

Nothing you can really do about that. Leave at 01:30 or get a motel at the pick up point
