I run a repair shop and have a small trucking business on the side. Maybe more of a hobby actually I have been thinking about trying to expand my trucking operation. Really I need to pick one and with the current economic situation I am very hesitant to expand my shop to what I need/want to continue as a for hire shop. Currently I am running a tandem dump and semi dump trailer and also have a decent 55ton Rgn. I am rebuilding my w9 (it’s a 74) and keep thinking about trying to do some longer runs.
Mostly moving equipment for local excavation contractors now grossing 90-110k. I do enjoy it but it’s hardly justifiable. The truck is in progress this is where it’s going.
250wb heavy single frame 20k front 46k rears 4.10 full lockers 18 speed maybe a lift axle 3406b/c mechanical or kta cummins
I own all of the components already (the benifits of working on other equipment). Maybe I should put a sleeper on but I feel like I will hate it for local stuff. I love my back window at some of the jobs I go to.
Any thoughts on setting up the truck and feasibility of longer osow with a daycab would be appreciated
Tia

Where are you or did I miss that?
-
West Central Illinois
Sorry I didn’t get that in there. -
I was thinking logs, but all the contacts I have are in TX, LA or in OR.
W923 Thanks this. -
I do some regional oversize-5 axle under 90k gross- (based out of the far western suburbs of Chicago). Run a daycab. Longer runs usually require a little more homework. Need to have a plan A, B and C for lodging, fuel, rest stops. Lodging is the hardest for me. Can't always find the nicest place to park. Picture is a machine that came from north of Milwaukee and went just west of Detroit. Only got about half way there before I ran out of day light. This motel was option B, not the best place but it had a big parking lot.
baha, God prefers Diesels, beastr123 and 3 others Thank this. -
It's the thought that count's
Thanks MObee
What and where do logs go in Texas? Never thought of Texas as a logging state -
Nice looking setup 01!
Do you find plenty to do with the lowboy or do you have other trailers?
I have thought about building some type of kick stand so to speak that would secure the neck to the truck frame, and putting lights on the back of the neck so I could separate and drive the truck and neck around to find food and lodging,01HFT Thanks this. -
When you say "run" a repair shop. Do you own it? How many good techs?

Thanks, I find enough work for the double drop to justify it so far. Just bought it in August last yr. I have the double, an open step deck and a conestoga step. This time of yr I try to stay hooked to the conestoga(I'm lazy and don't want to tarp). I've dropped the trailer over night before. Usually I can back into the customers building or into a fenced in yard. Most places I've hauled to have been more than accommodating.
