Are you required to check each appropriate box in the inspection report or are you only required to check the box that the vehicle is satisfactory and sign it?
-
You only check a box if there is a deficiency, if it is all satisfactory you check that box sign date it, write in the mileage and roll on. If you check something that is deficient then you have to have some proof of it being repaired as well.
-
That is what I have been doing and the dot has never questioned it but I had some one tell me I was doing it wrong.
-
Well if it is wrong I guess we are both wrong, cuz that is the same way I been dong it for as long as I been driving, and never had the DOT say a word about it. Come to think about it I hardly ever get asked for the inspection sheet. Log book every time I get stopped, but not the inspection sheet.
-
I've never put the mileage on it.
-
You were correct. It actually tells you what to do on the sheet.... like mine says "driver use check in box only if defective. Mechanic use check when corrected."
