  1. I can 2nd this, I was told at our DOT Inspection by the Inspector while he was talking, I dont need to have the DVIR unless you have more than one truck.
SamTheMan is correct to the letter, till they change it.

Do you really have to log 15min for a post trip or can you just flag say 10min?

You have to log the pre-trip at least 15min. I always just show 30min because I only long in 30min increments. Makes tallying up at the end of the day easier.

You have to log an inspection. Either pre or post.

I was trained to NEVER check a fault on a DVIR. The reasoning is simple. If you find a fault, you always get it repaired before moving, then you perform another inspection with no faults before you go.

If you check faults and show proof of repair, that's fine, but it's just one more thing to get nailed on.

    MJ1657 Thanks this.

LOL....I always just show a post trip that's when really go over my truck it's way easier to fix it at the end of the day than it is waiting until the next morning.
I had a oil line bust one day thank god I walk around my truck and really look it over or sometime that night I would have been out of oil by next morning it was coming out steady..

correct. You are required to do ONE a day, and it is not specified as to before or after your shift. I do it after, that way when I get up in the morning and do my quick 5 minute walk around (not logged) pre trip, I can see if any fluids leaked out over night...I'm USUALLY pretty good about checking the ground before I go to bed. lol Not always

    MJ1657 and keepontrucking81 Thank this.
