Speaking about mileage" in the odometer section of the dvir, it mandatory to put it in or just optional? I know the recap section in the log is

Although you would think it should be in there, after reading 396.11 (Driver vehicle inspection report(s).) and doing a search of all regulations for the terms "odometer" or "mileage", nothing comes up specifically requiring it. Therefore, IMHO, if the regulations do not state it has to be there, then it would appear to be optional.
So, yes, your idea of photocopying a DVIR 365 times should work.

That's a company thing. Usually the log ends up in safety and the DVIR ends up in the shop records. The shop probably uses that to help keep up with maintenance. That's the first I've heard of someone putting mileage on a DVIR. But DOT required? No.

You only need to put the mileage if going to Canada.
