But that’s just it, they will never be perfect copies. The ELD goes by the minute but on paper you have to round up or down to the nearest 15 minute mark.

Nobody answered your recap question. Hilarious. You simply add your hours from the day before! Also, your time is rounded up or down to the nearest 15 minute increment when doing manual logs. I use a small ruler for mine and cross out lines that are mistakes. If I feel like it later I'll redo it so it's easier to read.

Driving is driving, on-duty, not driving (ODND) is work. Work hours include driving and ODND
    70 Hours - ( Driving + ODND) = Work/Driving available for the 8 day period/today

It's the same rules on paper as ELD. On paper you can only log in 15 minutes 30 or 45 or 1 hour. So that .25 or .50 or .75 or 1.00. That's why most driver on paper logs show 15 minutes to fuel because you could not log less then 15 minutes (.25) The rules was if something took 7 1/2 min or more you logged 15 minutes because you had to round up. If someone took less then 7 1/2 minutes you round down. Say it look 37 minutes to load your truck. You then only had to log 30 minutes (.50). If it took 38 minutes to load your trailer then you had round up to to 45 minutes (.75).

It was the same with everything like Pre Trip Inspections. Most drivers would log 15 minutes or 30 because you had to round up or down. If it took you 20 minutes you would log 15 minutes pretrip inspection. If it took you 23 minutes then you had to log 30 minutes (.50). If it took you 50 minutes then you had log 45 minutes (.75) if it took you 53 minutes you had to log 1 hour.

Of course when you're pushing 11 hours, rounding down works fine!

I had to round down twice and log a split berth thanks to an unexpected roadside inspection Friday. I couldn't imagine dealing with some device telling me what to do down to the very second with zero forgiveness.
